Mango Carrot Smoothie

My old blender broke last week. It’s my fault. I often ‘bang’ a spoon on the side of the glass pitcher to get the food off the spoon and back into the pitcher. I’ve had this blender for years and I’ve probably been banging in that exact same spot for years….so I’m guessing that over time, the glass said, “I’ve had enough of this!” …and a portion of it shattered into small pieces of glass that went flying across the kitchen floor. Well, I can’t go without a blender for very long, so I quickly debated whether we should buy a replacement pitcher for my cheap Oster blender or get a new one. The Oster blender was already several years old, so we didn’t know how much longer the motor would last. We decided we might as well get a new one, especially since I knew there were more powerful blenders on the market these days. So after a little research comparing features and prices (wow…there are some expensive blenders out there!!), I decided on the Ninja Blender. I liked that it had blades all along a middle shaft as opposed to just the ones on the bottom, plus it had great reviews overall. I was hoping this one would blend much smoother and more easily than my Oster.

When the blender arrived, I pulled it out of the box as soon as I had a free moment, read the instruction manual cover to cover (yes, I always read manuals…I’m weird like that), and then hand-washed it so it would be ready to use first thing this morning.
Well, we just tried it out to make a smoothie and I love it already! The 1000 watt motor is WAY more powerful than our old Oster model. I decided I would give it a ‘real test’ on it’s very first run…baby carrots. And it blended them all right up…no struggle! I’m super excited to try adding other veggies (especially green ones) to our smoothies in the near future.

Today’s Smoothie-of-the-Morning (for me and 3 kids)…

Mango Carrot Smoothie
Serves: 2-3 servings
  • 1 mango
  • 1 pear
  • 2 fresh bananas (or 1 fresh & 1 frozen)
  • 2 handfuls of frozen pineapple
  • 20 baby carrots
  • 2 T ground flaxseed meal
  1. Add to blender and blend!

Yum! The kids and I all loved it! They thought it was so neat that our new blender could blend up “crunchy carrots” so easily!

My New Ninja Blender

These are the smoothie straws we use. We LOVE them! They’re easy to clean and using them eliminates throwing away plastic straws every day!
