This is a totally different post than normal. No new recipe, no ‘real food’ tips to share…it’s not even fitness/running related. I’m writing this post for ONE reason only. I really, really want to encourage you to sign up for my email newsletter. You’ve probably heard by now that Facebook has changed its newsfeed algorithm and pages’ posts are being seen less and less people every day. I’m still seeing ‘better than average’ percentages than many other bloggers (believe me, we’re all comparing!!)…but, I’m guessing my luck is going to run out one of these days, as well. I love sharing on Facebook and I worked hard to gain over 3,000 followers, so it’s all the more disappointing now to see that the game is changing. Growing my email subscriber list seems to be the only ‘guaranteed’ way to reach those of you that want to follow along with my real food journey.
I understand that there are a lot of pages out there like mine and you’ve probably ‘liked’ many of those, as well. I purposely don’t post more than 2 times a day (3 on a rare occasion). I don’t want to overwhelm your newsfeed and I’m very aware of how many posts you’d see if Facebook didn’t filter anything. (It would be like Twitter! I can never catch up on Twitter, but I follow less than 200 people/brands!) I understand the need for some filtering…but, here is why I’m nervous… One of these days, I’m going to wake up, share a new blog post on Facebook, and it’s going to be seen by almost no one. And if you only follow me on Facebook, you’ll completely forget about me…or assume that I’m no longer blogging. Yes, you can still go to my Facebook page and check out what I’ve posted, but, let’s be honest…that’s not going to happen. We’re all too busy for that! Me, included! I want to see my favorite pages when I scroll down my newsfeed, but that’s not happening on my personal account either. (I’m seeing processed food ads and spammy ‘Skinny Oprah’ ads. Yep, contrary to what Facebooks states, it does NOT know what I want to see in my newsfeed…)
Don’t believe me that my reach will soon be almost zero? Check out this article posted on TIME’s website: The Free-Marketing Gravy Train is over on Facebook.
Right now, my average reach is currently around 30% of my 3,000 followers. So, there are many of you that are still seeing most of my posts (probably the ones that comment and “like” the most). However, in the last few days, I’ve seen my reach dwindling down a little bit more. My last few posts reached less than 15%. Though, to be fair, those posts were nothing exciting. I’m fully aware that not everything I share on Facebook is life-altering! 😉 However, when I shared my post: 20 Simple Real Food Lunch Ideas for Kids, I saw a huge reach…5,446 people to be exact! So, I think it’s very true that the better quality content I write, the more people the post will reach. However, it’s such a bummer when I spend a lot of time writing up a new post, share it on Facebook, and then it fizzles out within 15 minutes and stops being shown to anyone new.
So, here’s the deal… I can’t rely on Facebook anymore, but I don’t want to lose any of my followers (you!). I hope you will sign up!
I’m sharing this now, because one of these days, even my most interactive Facebook followers probably won’t see my posts. And that will be a sad, sad day…because I won’t have a clue how to reach you!!
Just so you know what you’re signing up for: I currently send out one email a week. On Thursday. Nothing more, nothing less. If you open it up, see that there is nothing you’re interested in this week, you can delete it and move on. However, with this method, you are the one making that choice, not Facebook. My newsletter consists of a recap of anything new I’ve posted from the previous week, as well as a little note at the beginning. Plus, I’ve started sharing a recipe ‘from the archives,’ as a bonus. It’s pretty basic, but I think it’s pretty cool, too! It’s fun to put together each week!
I kind of feel like this is my ‘last chance’ to reach people on Facebook while I’m still seeing a little bit of reach with my page. I still plan to be active on Facebook, but I don’t want to rely on it exclusively to ‘be there for me’ anymore. I have branched out and I’m trying to grow my audiences on other platforms (Google+, Twitter, Pinterest), but Facebook is still my favorite. By far!! I love Facebook and the interactions with other people. If you could do me a HUGE favor and, after you’re done reading this, please “like” or comment on the Facebook post so it reaches the largest number of my followers as possible??? This post is really important to me. I can’t stress that enough and I really want to give everyone a chance to see this blog post. I don’t want to lose you (or anyone else)!
So, again, if you haven’t signed up for my email newsletter…but still want to keep seeing updates from me, please consider it. I promise I won’t send more than one email a week (And if you find you don’t like it, you can always unsubscribe in one simple click…but no one has done that yet.) 😉
Note: Please add my email address (email@example.com) to your contacts when you sign up to ensure that my newsletter doesn’t end up in your spam folder.
And to those of you who have already signed up? Thank you, thank you!! I’m so glad to have you following along!
