Purple Superfood Smoothie

Every ingredient in this new smoothie recipe of mine is a SUPERFOOD!! Always a good thing, right? And I love, love, love the color of this smoothie! Isn’t it so pretty?

Purple Smoothie

What are the benefits of each ingredient, you ask???

Bananas: Low in calories, but filling. Reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression.  Loaded with potassium, which helps to lower blood pressure. And helps improve digestion.

Pomegranate Juice: Filled with antioxidants! May help to fight cancer, reduce blood pressure, and lower bad cholesterol.

Blackberries: Also loaded with antioxidants. Helps to reduce your risk of heart problems, periodontal disease and age-related declines in both motor and cognitive functions.

Spinach: Again, rich in antioxidants, but the flavonoids found in spinach can help slow the signs of aging and keep your skin and hair looking young and your brain feeling sharp. It’s also good for your heart (prevents hypertension) and rich in iron, helping you to feel strong and energized all day.

Greek Yogurt: Protein! Plus, helps increase bone strength, lower cholesterol, strengthen immune system and aids in digestion.

Chia Seeds: Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, protein, healthy fats, and fiber. Helps to keep you fuller longer.

Want the exact recipe so you can make this for yourself? Here it is!

Purple Superfood Smoothie

(This makes one LARGE serving.)

  • 2 bananas (Chill them in the freezer for 10 minutes first, if you can.)
  • 5 cubes of frozen pomegranate juice*
  • Large handful of organic baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 handfuls of organic blackberries
  • 1 T chia seeds

Blend together and enjoy! (I use a Ninja blender–it always works great for me!)

*I freeze fresh pomegranate juice into ice cube trays for the purpose of using them in smoothies later on. You can either squeeze the juice directly from pomegranates by rolling them around to pop the arils on the inside, or you can buy pomegranate juice from the grocery store.

These are the smoothie straws I use. I love that they are thick enough for all my smoothie concoctions, but the best part is that they’re reusable! I no longer throw away 4+ plastic straws every single time we have smoothies for breakfast! (They’re easy to clean too.)

LeAnn Nome

Hi there! Here's a little info about me: I've been married to my husband for over 10 years and I'm a stay-at-home mom to our three young kids (a six year old daughter and four year old twin boys). As you might imagine, they keep me quite busy! In early 2013, we decided that we wanted to be a healthier family. To do this, we cut out all processed foods from our home and we now eat only REAL, whole foods. (When we're on vacation or at someone's house, we're not quite as strict.) We also try to exercise every day. Our goal is to raise healthy, happy kids...while maintaining our own health and happiness along the way! I hope you will follow along with us in our journey.
